Thanks to the experience and know-how in the sector, Gavazzi produces a wide range of tapes and fabrics with different yarns, such as glass, basalt and aramid, made in all widths starting from 3 mm and with different thicknesses.
Their use is required in various application sectors: insulation of electrical cables and transformer coils, cables in asynchronous motors, alternators, stators, transformers and superconducting magnets, where the dielectric properties of glass are exploited.
In the world of composites, such as boat building and transport, they are used to create structural parts, to repair or reinforce partitions, solving specific technical or production needs.
The advantages of fiber glass
The type of fiber most used in weaving is glass fiber which, thanks to its numerous properties, transfers important advantages to ribbons and fabrics:
- Mechanical resistance: High tensile strength along the longitudinal direction
- Insulation: by its nature, glass fiber has a very low electrical conductivity. The tape is therefore applied to the cables and conductors in order to insulate them and, at the same time, protect them from external agents.
- Resistance to high temperature: the textile products in glass fiber take on a fireproof function, act as a wrapping of the components on which they are applied, preventing the spread of flame.
The silane finish
The silane finish is a treatment of the yarn aimed at offering an optimal bonding to epoxy or polyester resins, mainly used in repairs and reinforcement in the boat building sector.
Tapes with silane sizing have high impregnation capacities which guarantee greater friction than untreated tapes.
Caramelization
Caramelization is a thermal treatment carried out to remove most of the sizing from the yarn. The organic matter fraction remaining after caramelization is approx. 0.10-0.15%.
The treatment allows to limit the formation of smoke in case of exposure of the belt to high temperatures.
Furthermore, the removal of most of the sizing significantly increases the impregnation of the fiber with resins.
